Kaviguru Express Halt & Punsia Platform Expansion for Banka

Commuters in the Banka region are set for a significant boost in rail connectivity and station amenities. Following productive discussions between local representatives and the Malda Rail Division, several key railway initiatives have been announced, including a trial halt for a major express train and essential infrastructure upgrades across the area.

Kaviguru Express Trial Halt at Dhouni Station

In a major development for local travelers, Eastern Railway officials have confirmed that a trial halt for the Kaviguru Express will be implemented at Dhouni station. This move follows intense advocacy by MLA Manish Kumar and the Dhouni Railway Sangharsh Samiti.

While the trial is a significant step forward, the permanency of the stop remains under review. Railway authorities have stated that the decision to make the halt permanent will be strictly contingent upon the ticket sales performance recorded during the trial period. This follows a meeting on June 1, 2026, where a delegation from the Samiti briefed MP Girdhari Yadav regarding the lack of progress on previous railway assurances.

Major Infrastructure Upgrades Planned

The railway department is also moving forward with several projects to modernize station facilities and improve passenger comfort in the region. Key plans include:

  • Punsia Halt: A planned expansion of the platform to better serve the growing number of passengers.
  • Dhouni Station Improvements: To enhance the station's utility, authorities have slated the installation of a new gate, improved parking facilities, and the construction of an additional passenger shed.

Future Connectivity and Service Updates

The administration is continuing to evaluate the needs of the region. Currently, a study is being conducted to determine the feasibility of a halt for the Dumka-Patna Express. However, regarding passenger convenience, officials have noted that the establishment of a Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counter is not feasible at this time.

These upcoming developments build upon the momentum gained in September 2025, when the Godda-New Delhi Humsafar Express, the Godda-Ranchi Express, and the Godda-Tatanagar Express were all approved for halts at Dhouni station, marking a progressive era for rail access in Banka.
