Kerala Train Derailment Plot Thwarted; Bihar Man Detained

A major sabotage attempt aimed at derailing a train was successfully thwarted in Kerala's Palakkad district on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel discovered heavy objects placed across the tracks, signaling a deliberate effort to cause a catastrophic accident.
Debris Found on Tracks
The suspicious activity was detected between Ottapalam and Shoranur. During a patrol, authorities identified heavy debris placed at three separate locations along the railway line. The items recovered from the tracks included:
- Heavy concrete slabs
- A piece of a railway track
- A sack filled with hardened cement
The placement of these objects suggested a calculated attempt to interfere with train movement and cause a derailment.
Bihar Resident Detained
Following the discovery, the RPF acted swiftly to secure the area and apprehend a suspect. A man identified as Shuk Lal Maria, a resident of Bihar, was taken into custody for questioning after being spotted moving suspiciously near the scene of the sabotage attempt.
While the investigation is currently underway, officials have not yet released details regarding the suspect's motive or the full extent of his involvement in the plot.
Railway Operations Remain Normal
Despite the high-priority nature of the incident, railway engineering officials conducted an immediate and thorough inspection of the tracks. By 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the line was declared safe for all train operations.
Officials confirmed that no trains were halted or delayed as a result of the sabotage attempt, ensuring that passenger services continued without interruption.
