Khalilabad-Bahraich Rail Line Stalled: Soil Mining Crisis
The ambitious 240-kilometer Khalilabad-Bahraich rail line project has hit a major roadblock. Construction has been suspended for several months as officials struggle with a critical shortage of soil required for essential earthwork.
The Mining Permission Bottleneck
The logistical crisis is centered around the Parsa Pandey area within the Mehdawal region. Progress has been severely hindered because the necessary permissions for soil extraction have not been granted. This issue stems from a previous ban on soil mining that was enforced by the former Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Arun Kumar.
Without access to these materials, the fundamental tasks of ground preparation and track laying have come to a complete standstill.
Weather Complications and Track Delays
Adding to the existing administrative hurdles, recent heavy rainfall has further disrupted construction activities. The wet conditions have made it increasingly difficult to proceed with any site work, exacerbating the delays already caused by the soil shortage.
Rapid Progress at New Railway Station
Despite the halt in track-related work, there is a notable exception in the project's progress. The construction of the new railway station located between Aurahi and Kusauna is moving forward at a rapid pace. In fact, it is highly probable that the station building will reach completion well before the track-laying work can resume.
A History of Project Obstacles
This infrastructure project has faced a series of setbacks since January 2026. Beyond the current mining issues, the Khalilabad-Bahraich line has struggled with complex land acquisition challenges. Specifically, the reluctance of local farmers to surrender their land during the Rabi season has contributed to significant delays in the overall project timeline.
