A History of Local Unrest and Track Blockades
The closure comes against a backdrop of recurring operational challenges at this specific location. The Khandip crossing has historically been a site of tension between local communities and railway operations.
Records show that on June 16 and 17, 2026, the area experienced intense protests where villagers obstructed the Delhi-Mumbai railway tracks. During these demonstrations, farmers prevented the level crossing gate from closing, which successfully halted train traffic for approximately one hour. These protests were centered on grievances regarding the delayed release of water from the Panchana Dam in the Karauli district into local irrigation canals.
Strengthened Safety Mandates for Level Crossings
The management of these crossings has come under intense scrutiny following a serious safety incident in September 2025 near Katpadi. In that instance, a telecommunication failure left a level crossing gate open just as an express train was approaching, highlighting critical vulnerabilities in gate operations.
