Kharagpur Division Launches Massive 3-Day Cleaning Drive

The Kharagpur Division of South Eastern Railway has embarked on a massive three-day intensive cleaning drive to enhance hygiene and sanitation across its network. This initiative is being carried out under the Swachhata Pakhwada-2026 and Special Campaign 6.0 programs.
Extensive Cleaning of Stations and Public Areas
The drive focuses on major railway stations and high-traffic zones within the division. Specialized cleaning teams are working on platforms, foot overbridges (FOBs), staircases, and parking lots. To ensure a deep clean, railway authorities are utilizing high-pressure water jets and advanced machinery to wash down these essential passenger areas.
The intensive cleaning covers several critical components:
- Public toilets and drainage systems
- Water storage tanks and drinking water taps
- Dustbins, lighting fixtures, and indicator boards
- Overhead structures and fans
Improving Passenger Comfort and Hygiene
Beyond the platforms, the campaign extends to passenger amenities to ensure a comfortable journey. Waiting rooms, lounges, running rooms, and rest houses are undergoing thorough cleaning. This includes the deep cleaning of furniture, mattresses, and carpets, as well as floor scrubbing and the cleaning of air conditioning filters.
Focus on Railway Colonies and Offices
The cleanliness drive is not limited to passenger-facing areas. Railway colonies are being addressed through weed removal, drain cleaning, and general sanitation improvements. Additionally, administrative offices, record rooms, corridors, and canteens are being cleaned.
As part of the waste management process, unusable materials and e-waste are being systematically removed through authorized channels. To maintain high standards, the division is employing modern equipment such as scrubber-dryers, high-pressure jet washers, machine-operated cleaning vehicles, and fogging machines for pest control.
