They detected a serious rail fracture at Gokulpur-Medinipur block section in the dead of night.
Prompt reporting of the track defect allowed engineers to impose a safety speed restriction of 30 kmph.

Vigilance During Monsoon Patrolling
On the late night of August 24, track maintainer-III Sanjeet Kumar Ghosh and Madan Mohan Das, working under the Senior Engineer (P.Way)/Kharagpur, were performing their scheduled monsoon night patrolling duty. Around 1:40 AM on August 25, near point number 37/A at kilometer 122/1A-2A on the up main line of the Gokulpur-Medinipur block section, they noticed a severe crack in the railway track.
Swift Action Ensures Train Safety
Understanding the gravity of the situation, both frontline railway employees acted without delay. They immediately informed the concerned sectional SSE (P.Way) and unit in-charge about the damaged track. Acting swiftly on the alert, the maintenance team rushed to the spot and implemented necessary safety measures, including imposing a 30 kilometers per hour speed restriction for trains passing through the affected section. This prompt intervention guaranteed the safe movement of passenger and freight trains, successfully averting a potential mishap.
Railway Administration Praises Dedication
To honor their exemplary sense of duty, Kharagpur Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Lalit Mohan Pandey presented both workers with cash awards and appreciation letters. Speaking on the occasion, the DRM praised their responsibility and alertness, emphasizing that such prompt actions by frontline railway staff play a vital role in maintaining uncompromised safety in train operations across the network.
