Kolkata Metro: Trial Runs Start on Beliaghata-IT Centre Section
Kolkata Metro starts trial runs on the 4.5 km Beliaghata to IT Centre section, a key part of the Orange Line expansion.

The Kolkata Metro has officially entered a new phase of its expansion as trial runs have commenced on the 4.5-kilometer stretch connecting Beliaghata to the IT Centre. This development marks a significant step forward in enhancing the city's transit network.
Boosting Connectivity via the Orange Line
This new section is a crucial component of the broader Orange Line development project. Managed and implemented by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), the 4.5 km track is designed to provide seamless connectivity to the existing Green Line, making commutes easier for thousands of passengers.
Rigorous Testing and Safety Measures
The ongoing trial runs are not just about moving trains; they are intensive technical evaluations. According to officials, these tests are being conducted to ensure the highest standards of safety and efficiency:
- Verify train operations: Ensuring smooth movement on the newly laid tracks.
- Signaling functionality: Testing the complex signaling systems required for safe transit.
- Staff preparedness: Ensuring all personnel are trained and ready to operate under various protocols.
The Road to Passenger Service
Once the technical evaluations are successfully completed by engineers and authorities, the next critical step involves the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS). A mandatory inspection by the CRS is required to ensure all safety standards are met. Only after receiving formal approval from the CRS will passenger services officially begin on this stretch.
Official Recognition of Progress
Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed the completion of this infrastructure milestone, highlighting its importance in improving urban transit options. Furthermore, West Bengal Chief Minister Shri Suvendu Adhikari expressed his appreciation for the continued commitment to advancing the state's railway and metro infrastructure.
