Kosi Kalan Station Gets ₹28.83 Cr Amrit Bharat Makeover

The Kosi Kalan railway station in Mathura is witnessing a massive transformation as part of the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. With an estimated investment of Rs 28.83 crore, the redevelopment project is designed to modernize the station, providing much-needed infrastructure upgrades and enhanced amenities for the thousands of passengers who pass through daily.

Massive Infrastructure Upgrades Underway

The redevelopment work has been progressing for approximately two years, and the scale of the changes is becoming increasingly evident. The project focuses on expanding the station's footprint and improving the flow of commuters. Key highlights of the construction include:

  • New Station Building: A significant new structure covering roughly 4,860 square meters.
  • Expanded Circulating Area: A new area of about 3,334 square meters to improve vehicle movement and access.
  • Foot-Over Bridge (FOB): A major investment of approximately Rs 15 crore is being made to construct a new FOB to facilitate easier movement between platforms.
  • Vertical Mobility: To ensure ease of travel, lifts and escalators are being installed with an allocation of about Rs 94 lakh.

Modern Amenities for Passenger Comfort

Beyond the heavy construction, the project aims to provide a seamless and tech-enabled experience for travelers. The station is being equipped with various modern facilities, including:

  • Digital Systems: Upgraded public address systems, coach display systems, and digital clocks.
  • Enhanced Services: New help booths and upgraded ticketing counters featuring both low and high-level service windows.
  • Accessibility Features: The installation of standard ramps, subways, and specially designed toilets for persons with disabilities.
  • Basic Utilities: Dedicated water booths to ensure easy access to drinking water for commuters.

Quality Concerns and Structural Investigation

While the transformation is promising, the project has recently faced challenges regarding construction quality. In July 2026, reports surfaced regarding water leakage from the roof of the newly constructed station building. This development led to increased security at the site, with the construction agency restricting access for both the public and the media.

Addressing the situation, Sanjay Gautam, the Public Relations Officer for the Agra Division, stated that an investigation into the structural integrity of the building has been ordered. While the specific details of the investigation have not been made public, the priority remains ensuring that the new infrastructure meets all safety and quality standards.
