Koyna and Hospet Express to Get LHB Coach Upgrade
Central Railway is upgrading Koyna and Hospet Express with modern LHB coaches to enhance passenger safety and comfort starting January 2027.
Central Railway has announced a major technological upgrade for two prominent services: the Koyna Express and the Hospet Express. Both trains will soon transition from the older Integral Coach Factory (ICF) rakes to modern Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB) coaches, marking a significant step toward improved passenger safety and comfort.
Enhanced Safety and Modern Amenities
The shift to LHB coaches is a permanent change aimed at providing a superior travel experience. These stainless steel coaches are designed with advanced technology that far surpasses the older models. Key safety features include:
- Anti-climbing technology: This feature is designed to prevent coaches from piling up on top of each other in the event of a collision.
- Advanced braking systems: Ensuring more efficient and controlled deceleration.
- Fire-retardant materials: Built with modern materials to enhance safety during emergencies.
New 18-Coach Composition
With the upgrade, each train will follow a standardized permanent composition of 18 LHB coaches. The new breakdown is as follows:
- 1 AC Second Class coach
- 3 AC Third Class coaches
- 6 Sleeper Class coaches
- 6 General Second Class coaches
- 1 Generator Car
- 1 Second Class-cum-Guard/Brake Van
Implementation Schedule
The rollout of the new LHB rakes will take place in early January 2027. Passengers should note the specific dates for their respective services:
Koyna Express Upgrades
- Train No. 11030 (Kolhapur to CSMT): The new LHB rake will be implemented on January 10, 2027.
- Train No. 11029 (CSMT to Kolhapur): The new rake will be effective from January 12, 2027.
Hospet Express Upgrades
- Train No. 11139 (CSMT to Hospet): The transition to LHB coaches will occur on January 10, 2027.
- Train No. 11140 (Hospet to CSMT): The new service will be effective from January 11, 2027.
Railway authorities advise all passengers to confirm the updated coach compositions and travel schedules through the official Indian Railways website or the NTES app before their journey.
