Landslide Hits Maligura-Chatripur: Trains Cancelled & Diverted

A massive landslide occurring between Maligura and Chatripur stations has thrown rail operations in the Rayagada division into chaos. The sudden movement of earth and debris onto the tracks has severely impacted East Coast Railway services, forcing authorities to implement emergency measures to ensure passenger safety.
Major Train Cancellations and Route Diversions
The landslide has caused significant disruption to the regional rail network. Railway officials have confirmed the complete cancellation of four passenger trains. In addition to the cancellations, six other train routes have been diverted to navigate around the affected section.
Among the key services impacted by this disruption are:
- Rourkela-Jagdalpur Express
- Kirandul-Visakhapatnam Express
- Jagdalpur-Rourkela Express
Because of the blockage, some trains are currently unable to traverse the entire route and are operating only up to Maligura or Chatripur stations.
Emergency Restoration Work Underway
To tackle the obstruction, railway authorities have deployed multiple JCB machines to the site. Teams are working urgently to clear large stones and thick mud that are currently blocking the railway tracks.
The restoration process is being closely monitored by senior railway leadership. Amitabh Singhal, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Rayagada division, is personally overseeing the site alongside other senior officials to coordinate the repair operations and expedite the clearance of the tracks.
