5,000+ Stranded: Lucknow-Delhi Trains Cancelled Amid Delhi Protests

A massive disruption in train services between Lucknow and Delhi has left more than 5,000 passengers stranded between October 9 and October 11, 2026. The sudden wave of Lucknow Delhi train cancellations was triggered by large-scale protests organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) in Delhi on Saturday, October 10.

Major Trains Impacted by Cancellations

The operational chaos affected several prominent services on this vital corridor. Passengers relying on the following trains faced significant delays or total cancellations:

The Domino Effect on Gomti Express

Railway officials noted that the cancellations created a domino effect on schedules. Samarth Gupta, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Northern Railway's Lucknow division, confirmed that the cancellation of the 12420 New Delhi-Lucknow Gomti Express on October 10 directly led to the cancellation of the 12419 Lucknow-New Delhi Gomti Express from Charbagh Railway Station on Sunday, October 11.

Operational Challenges and Official Response

Authorities from both the Northern Railway and North Eastern Railway cited heavy anticipated traffic around New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations as primary reasons for the service changes. To manage the crisis, Sumit Kumar, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Eastern Railway, stated that officials attempted to mitigate the impact through public announcements and direct messaging to affected passengers.

Indian Railways and IRCTC have offered ticket refunds to all travelers impacted by these sudden schedule changes.

Passengers Face High Bus Fares Amid Chaos

While the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) worked to provide relief by keeping additional buses on standby in Noida and Ghaziabad, many travelers struggled to find immediate transport. Reports surfaced that private bus operators took advantage of the travel rush, heavily overcharging stranded passengers for alternative routes.
