Lucknow approves railway overbridges at Mahanagar and Jugauli crossings for ₹333 crore

Lucknow is set to undergo major infrastructure improvements with the upcoming construction of two new railway overbridges at the Mahanagar and Jugauli railway crossings. This crucial initiative aims to resolve chronic traffic bottlenecks, enhance urban connectivity, and drastically reduce daily commute times for thousands of residents across the city. The project has successfully secured in-principle consent from both the Uttar Pradesh state government and the North Eastern Railway administration. Local leadership, particularly Lucknow East Assembly constituency MLA O.P. Srivastava, played a vital role in advocating for these permanent traffic solutions. With administrative approvals secured as of September 11, 2026, construction is slated to begin soon.

Project Details for Jugauli Crossing ROB

The Jugauli railway crossing project involves the construction of a 763-meter-long railway overbridge at an estimated cost of ₹168 crore. This vital infrastructure is specially designed to ease heavy traffic congestion for commuters traveling toward major localities including Vishwas Khand, Gomti Nagar, Lohia Chauraha, Raveendra Palli, Brahmapuri, and Indira Nagar.

Mahanagar Crossing ROB Development

Simultaneously, an 813-meter-long railway overbridge will be built at the Mahanagar railway crossing at a cost of approximately ₹165 crore. This development will directly benefit residents and daily travelers moving around Mahanagar, Channilal Chauraha, Vivekananda Hospital, IT Chauraha, Kapoorthala, and Aliganj. Previous project projections estimated that these infrastructure upgrades could positively impact around 2.5 lakh people, ensuring smoother vehicular movement and significantly reducing waiting times at busy railway level crossings.
