Residents of several villages near Mahrail railway station in the Andhrathadhi block of Madhubani district staged a peaceful one-day protest on Saturday, September 5, 2026, demanding an official stoppage for the Anand Vihar-Laukaha Bazar Special train. The demonstration was organized by the Mahavir Bajrangbali Trust to press for the regular operation and permanent stoppage of trains numbered 04013 and 04014. Protestors highlighted that daily commuters including students, professionals, traders, farmers, and patients face severe hardships due to the lack of a halt at Mahrail station. Despite submitting multiple petitions carrying thousands of signatures, locals claim railway authorities have yet to take concrete action. A formal memorandum was submitted to the station superintendent, who forwarded the demands to the Samastipur Railway Division while locals warned of intensifying protests if ignored.
The absence of a designated stop at Mahrail station has severely impacted a large population in the region.
The demonstration, led by the Mahavir Bajrangbali Trust, was organized to demand the regular operation and official stoppage of the Anand Vihar-Laukaha Bazar Special train, identified by numbers 04013/04014. Everyday commuters such as students travelling for education, traders carrying goods, farmers, and patients seeking urgent medical attention struggle with transport connectivity. While Jhanjharpur MP Rampreet Mandal previously facilitated service extensions for the region, residents note that repeated appeals and memoranda signed by thousands have fallen on deaf ears.
Following the demonstration, a local delegation met with the Mahrail station superintendent and handed over a formal memorandum.
The station superintendent assured the protesters that local sentiments and demands would be forwarded to higher authorities in the Samastipur Railway Division for consideration. However, the agitating villagers have issued a stern warning.
They stated that if their demands are not met promptly, they will be compelled to intensify their agitation, which may include blocking railway traffic. The Anand Vihar-Laukaha Bazar Special service has witnessed multiple extensions over recent months.
It was previously extended to operate until August 16, 2026, following an earlier extension for daily operations between April 5, 2026, and July 15/16, 2026. Although an official announcement in April 2026 suggested the train would be regularized until further notice,
it continues to operate under its special train numbers without any modifications to its existing stoppage schedule at Mahrail.
