MP Rail Expansion: New Satna-Rewa Lines Link Sidhi!
New Satna-Devendranagar and Rewa-Churhat rail sections are now open, bringing Sidhi district into the national railway network.

The Vindhya region of Madhya Pradesh has reached a historic milestone in its journey toward better connectivity. On October 24, 2026, a massive leap in regional infrastructure was achieved with the inauguration of the Satna-Devendranagar and Rewa-Churhat rail sections.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav virtually inaugurated these vital lines, which serve as a crucial component of the much-anticipated Lalitpur-Singrauli rail project.
A Historic First for Sidhi District
In a moment of immense pride for the state, the Sidhi district has finally been linked to the national railway network for the first time since independence. This development is expected to transform the socio-economic landscape of the region, providing much-needed mobility to residents who previously relied heavily on road transport.
Following successful MEMU train trial runs conducted on October 22, 2026, regular passenger services are scheduled to commence on October 25, 2026. Additionally, a brand-new train service connecting Devendranagar and Churhat was officially flagged off during the ceremony.
Engineering Marvels and Infrastructure Details
The new infrastructure spans a total of 118 kilometers, showcasing impressive engineering feats designed to navigate the challenging terrain of the Vindhya region. The project consists of two primary segments:
- Satna-Devendranagar Section: Spanning 53 kilometers.
- Rewa-Churhat Section: Covering 65 kilometers, this section includes complex engineering works such as various bridges and a significant 3.33-kilometer-long tunnel.
Boosting Industry and Tourism
The expansion is set to be a game-changer for the local economy. By enhancing freight transport capabilities, the new lines will provide a massive boost to the limestone and cement industries located in Satna. Furthermore, the improved connectivity will open new doors for tourism, offering easier access to popular sites like the Mukundpur White Tiger Safari.
The improved rail network will specifically serve and benefit the following areas:
- Satna and Nagod
- Devendranagar and Rewa
- Sidhi and Panna
- Singrauli
Massive Investment in Madhya Pradesh Railways
This project is part of a much larger vision for the state's infrastructure. For the 2026-27 financial year, the government has allocated ₹15,188 crore specifically for rail development in Madhya Pradesh. Currently, ongoing rail projects across the state represent a total investment of approximately ₹1,18,379 crore.
