Mahindra Scorpio SUV: First Rail Delivery to Jammu

The Jammu Division of Indian Railways has achieved a major milestone in freight logistics by successfully completing the delivery of its first-ever rake of Mahindra vehicles. This significant operation marks a new era for automobile transport in the region, utilizing advanced rail infrastructure to move high-value goods.

Massive Shipment of 108 Mahindra Scorpio SUVs

In a massive logistical feat, a total of 108 Mahindra Scorpio SUVs were transported from Chinchwad, Maharashtra, to the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal (GCT) in Samba, Jammu and Kashmir. To facilitate this high-capacity shipment, Indian Railways employed 27 specially designed BCACBM automobile carrier wagons. These specialized wagons allow for the efficient, single-rake transport of multiple vehicles, ensuring they arrive in pristine condition.

This consignment represents the inaugural arrival of Mahindra automobiles in the Jammu region via rail transport. The move is expected to provide a much-needed and efficient logistics avenue for regional dealers, streamlining the supply chain for these popular SUVs.

Boosting Trade via Gati Shakti Infrastructure

The successful arrival of this rake highlights the expanding capabilities of the Gati Shakti infrastructure. By moving large volumes of vehicles through rail rather than road, the initiative aims to enhance the speed and reliability of regional trade.

Uchit Singhal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager for the Jammu Division, emphasized the strategic importance of this achievement:

"The successful arrival of this rake highlights the growing utility of the Gati Shakti infrastructure. The terminal aims to lower transportation costs while fostering environmentally sustainable freight movement."

The GCT in Samba was commissioned in 2024 under the government's 2021 Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal policy. The terminal is specifically designed to enhance integrated transport networks and improve the overall efficiency of regional trade and commerce across the division.
