Malda railway division conducted a major ticket checking drive across several sections including Pirpainti and Sahibganj on Saturday. Led by Senior DCM Kartik Singh under the guidance of DRM Manilp Kumar Gupta, the team caught hundreds of passengers traveling without valid tickets. This campaign resulted in the collection of a total fine of Rs 1,06,580 from various express and passenger trains. The initiative aimed to maintain discipline and encourage passengers to follow railway rules.

Trains and Locations Targeted During the Drive

The surprise checks were carried out specifically in the Pirpainti, Sahibganj, and Barharwa sections. Several prominent trains were part of this intensive drive to curb unauthorized travel. Railway staff including commercial inspectors and RPF personnel actively participated in the operation. The trains checked included:

Rules and Penalties for Ticketless Travel

As per Section 138 of the Railways Act 1989, traveling without a ticket is a serious offense that can lead to heavy penalties. During the campaign, officials also educated passengers about using the Railvan app for digital ticket purchases. The basic rules shared by the authorities include:

  • A minimum fine of Rs 250 is mandatory for ticketless travel.
  • Passengers must pay the fare from the train’s starting point to the detection point.
  • Traveling with an e-ticket but without a valid photo ID is also treated as a violation.
  • Refusal to pay the fine can result in being removed from the train or jail time.
