Malda Division: Major Train Cancellations & Diversions Announced
Eastern Railway has announced significant modifications to train services due to critical embankment erosion and soil subsidence along the Ganges river. These disruptions, primarily affecting the Sahibganj-Barharwa rail section in the Malda Division, are set to take effect from September 30, 2026.
The safety of passengers remains the top priority as rising water levels have reached within 20 meters of the railway tracks. Consequently, operations on the down line between Sakrigali and Maharajpur stations have been suspended while engineering teams conduct essential repair works and monitor the site.
Major Train Cancellations
Due to the ongoing emergency repairs, the following services have been cancelled:
- 63074 Sahibganj–Rampurhat MEMU
- 13428 Sahibganj–Howrah Intercity Express
Extensive Train Diversions
To maintain connectivity, several long-distance trains are being diverted through alternative routes. Please check the following details for your journey:
Via Bhagalpur–Dumka–Rampurhat Line
- 13024 Gaya–Howrah Express
- 13404 Bhagalpur–Ranchi Vananchal Express
- 13072 Jamalpur–Howrah Express
Via Jamalpur–Munger–Katihar Route
- 15657 Delhi–Kamakhya Brahmaputra Mail

Via Kiul–Jhajha–Asansol–Khana Route

Short-Terminated Services
Some passenger and express trains will no longer reach their full destinations and will instead terminate early at Sahibganj:

Wider Network Disruptions and Maintenance
Beyond the Malda Division, several other parts of the railway network are experiencing disruptions due to scheduled maintenance and infrastructure work:
Mokama and Dhanbad Updates
Non-interlocking work at the Mokama new rail bridge has caused massive disruptions, affecting 78 trains in total, including 41 cancellations and 37 diversions. Additionally, interlocking work at Bhaura in Dhanbad has led to the cancellation of multiple MEMU services.
Gorakhpur Station Platform Blockage
At Gorakhpur railway station, platform numbers five and six were blocked from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on September 30. This was necessary to facilitate the demolition of the old route relay interlocking building.
