A tragic railway accident occurred on Wednesday morning when a 21-year-old man lost his life after being struck by a high-speed freight train at Narayanpur railway station located on the Katihar-Barauni rail section. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the vital importance of railway safety and remaining alert around active tracks. The victim was identified as 21-year-old Shahnawaz, also known as Behra, who was a resident of Narayanpur village and the son of Md. Izauddin. He is survived by his wife, Afreen Khatoon, and their one-year-old son, leaving the local community in deep mourning.
According to eyewitness accounts, the tragedy took place at approximately
8:00 a.m. on Wednesday as the victim was walking from the direction of Madhurapur market. He was wearing Bluetooth earphones in both ears while attempting to cross the up-through line near pole number 80/15-16 at the eastern end of platform number one. Because he was distracted by his earphones, he unfortunately failed to see or hear the approaching freight train coming from the Katihar direction, resulting in a fatal collision that killed him instantly on the spot.
Narayanpur Station Superintendent Manohar Mandal confirmed that the incident occurred precisely at
8:08 a.m., with the initial report coming directly from the loco pilot of the Delhi Parcel train. Following the accident, the freight train remained stopped at the station for only one minute before resuming its journey. Railway authorities confirmed that train operations on the Katihar-Barauni section remained entirely normal following the incident, with no major disruptions reported.
Upon arriving at the scene, the victim's family members removed the body from the railway tracks and took it home within two minutes, which happened before the arrival of police or the completion of a formal inquest. According to the railway police, the grieving family explicitly refused to allow a post-mortem examination.
