Mandhana Railway Station in Kanpur is set for a massive transformation. Following the completion of the proposed Anwarganj-Mandhana elevated corridor, the station is slated to be developed as a major terminal to handle the expected surge in passenger traffic.

On Sunday, October 4, 2026, District Magistrate Mahendra Singh Tanwar presided over a high-level meeting to finalize plans for the station's upgrade. The primary objective is to enhance passenger amenities, improve parking facilities, streamline public transport, and ensure superior sanitation in anticipation of increased footfall.

To prepare for the station's new role, a joint committee—chaired by Kalyanpur BDO Sandeep Kumar (IAS) and including representatives from the Railways, NHAI, and the traffic department—conducted an on-site survey of the Mandhana area. The committee identified several critical areas for improvement:

  • Organized Parking: To manage traffic flow, the NHAI green belt area, spanning from the Mandhana intersection to the area in front of the spice factory, will be utilized as a temporary parking facility.
  • Station Expansion: Officials, including Chief Development Officer Abhinav J. Jain and Municipal Commissioner Arpit Upadhyay, have agreed to expand the station's waiting halls.
  • Enhanced Sanitation: There will be an increased deployment of cleaning staff. Furthermore, DM Tanwar has directed authorities to strengthen waste management and cleanliness protocols from Kalyanpur to the Rawatpur railway station.

The ₹1,115 Crore Elevated Corridor Project

The development of the Mandhana terminal is intrinsically linked to the Anwarganj-Mandhana (CPA-MDA) elevated corridor project. This massive infrastructure undertaking is expected to commence in either November or December 2026.

The project is estimated to cost approximately ₹1,115.65 crore. The contract for the work, valued at ₹830.90 crore, has been awarded to the Rajasthan-based firm Ravi Infrabuild Projects Limited (RIPL).

While the project marks a significant milestone for Kanpur's connectivity, it has faced some delays due to a 10% deficit in land acquisition requirements.

Impact on Train Operations and Schedules

Passengers traveling through this section should prepare for significant operational changes. A mega block lasting approximately two years (730 days) is proposed to begin in December 2026.

Pending final approval from the Railway Board, this construction period is expected to impact the operations of nearly 50 trains. The project involves extensive coordination between various departments, including the Assistant Divisional Engineer (Fatehgarh), the traffic department, and NHAI technical managers, to ensure the transition is managed effectively.
