Mandore Express Gets Extra AC Coaches for Festive Rush

To tackle the massive surge in passenger numbers during the upcoming festive season, the North Western Railway has announced a significant capacity boost for the Mandore Express (22491/22492). The decision comes as travelers look for confirmed berths during the busiest time of the year.
The augmentation includes the addition of two air-conditioned coaches to the existing rake: one Second AC (2AC) coach and one Third AC Economy (3E) coach. This move is specifically designed to ease the heavy waiting lists that typically plague this route during holidays.
Schedule for Extra Coaches
The extra coaches will be operational according to the following schedule:
- From Jodhpur (Train 22491): The facility is active from October 10 to October 16, 2026.
- From Delhi (Train 22492): The arrangement is in effect from October 11 to October 17, 2026.
Chief Public Relations Officer Amit Sudarshan confirmed that the primary objective is to provide more confirmed berths to commuters, ensuring a smoother travel experience during the festive period.
Infrastructure Hurdles in Jodhpur Division
While the coach augmentation brings relief to passengers, the Jodhpur Division continues to navigate several operational challenges caused by ongoing construction and infrastructure projects.
Recent Disruptions and Delays
The division has faced several service interruptions due to critical works:
- Satlana Station Works: In September 2026, construction on Bridge No. 4 and a subway at Satlana station on the Luni-Samdari-Bhildi line led to the disruption of eight trains, resulting in diversions and cancellations.
- Merta Road Construction: Earlier, in May 2026, the construction of a Road Under Bridge (RUB) at the Merta Road station yard caused significant delays and service changes for multiple trains.
Jodhpur Station Redevelopment Lag
Adding to the complexity is the long-standing delay in the redevelopment of Jodhpur railway station. The project has reportedly faced a setback of approximately four years, which has slowed down vital infrastructure upgrades, including the construction of new platforms, impacting thousands of daily passengers.
