Mangalpur ROB Widening: End to 3-Year Infrastructure Delay!
The long-awaited transformation of the Mangalpur Railway Overbridge (ROB) is finally moving forward. After a three-year period of stagnation, railway officials have completed a critical site survey to kickstart essential renovation and expansion works.
The project, which has been stalled for three years, is undergoing a major overhaul to align with recent railway upgrades. The decision to expand the bridge is a direct result of the double-tracking of the railway lines, which has rendered the previous bridge design insufficient for the new layout.
Redesigning for Increased Width
Because the railway lines have been expanded, the bridge must now be wider to accommodate the updated infrastructure. This necessity has triggered several key changes in the project's scope:
- Design Modifications: The structural plans are being heavily revised to meet the new width requirements.
- Revised Financial Estimates: Due to the increased scale of construction, previous cost assessments are being updated.
- Structural Alignment: The bridge must now integrate seamlessly with the newly doubled tracks.
The Path to Construction
Manoranjan Jha, the Executive Engineer of the National Highways (NH) division, confirmed that the project is currently in the technical planning stage. The department is focused on finalizing the new designs and the updated financial estimates required for the expanded scope.
Once the technical planning is successfully completed, the authorities will proceed with the following steps:
- Preparation of finalized departmental estimates.
- Launch of a formal tender process.
- Appointment of a contractor to begin the physical construction phase.
This expansion is expected to finally resolve the massive infrastructure bottleneck that has hindered the completion of the Mangalpur ROB for the past three years.
