Indian Railways passengers are facing a massive wave of schedule changes. A total of 845 trains are expected to face significant disruptions between September 21 and October 4, 2026, due to essential infrastructure upgrades and extensive maintenance blocks across multiple zones.
Major Cancellations and Route Changes
The East Central Railway (ECR) has highlighted a significant impact on services, specifically noting 338 train cancellations and 384 diversions. The primary driver behind this massive rescheduling is the commissioning of a new double-line rail bridge over the Ganga River near Mokama, Bihar, which requires intensive pre-non-interlocking work.
According to Saraswati Chandra, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the ECR, the work is concentrated at several key locations, including:
