MEMU Train Trial to Churhat Successful; New Services from Oct 21

A major milestone has been achieved in the ongoing Lalitpur-Singrauli rail project with the successful completion of the MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) train trial to Churhat. The trial run, conducted on October 17, 2026, marks a significant step forward in enhancing connectivity within the Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh.

The MEMU train reached the Churhat railway station at 11:15 AM and successfully completed its scheduled halt, departing at 11:55 AM. This successful test run has paved the way for regular passenger operations, which are proposed to commence on October 21, 2026.

New Connectivity for Satna and Rewa

While the official timetable from the railway department is still pending, the proposed services are expected to run from Satna and Rewa to Churhat. This new route is set to be a massive boon for various sections of society, particularly students, daily commuters, and general passengers.

The new service will provide much-needed accessibility to several key stations, including:

  • Baghwar
  • Rampur Naikin
  • Silpara
  • Govindgarh
  • Devendranagar

Challenges Amidst Progress

Despite the technical success of the train trials, the project remains entangled in complex socio-political and administrative issues. The development has become a subject of intense political debate regarding project credits, even as local communities grapple with the realities of land acquisition.

Land compensation remains a primary concern for many residents. While authorities reported that 144 landowners received a total of over ₹3.43 crore in April 2026, significant delays persist. As of September 2026, payments for 157 landowners are still pending, primarily due to missing bank account details.

Addressing Local Grievances

To manage the rising tensions, authorities have been organizing 'Railway Chaupal' sessions in various locations, including Churhat, Rampur Naikin, Sidhi, and Chandwahi. These sessions aim to address grievances related to construction and compensation disputes.

The situation in Chandwahi has been particularly sensitive, where 44 out of 56 identified structures were cleared in September 2026 as part of encroachment removal efforts. Furthermore, local farmers have expressed dissatisfaction with the compensation rates, with many demanding that payments be calculated based on 2025 circuit rates rather than the 2023 levels currently being offered.
