MEMU Train Hits Iron Girder in Hathras: Senior Engineer Suspended!
A major disaster was narrowly averted on the tracks between Hathras Junction and Kila station, leading to immediate disciplinary action by the North Central Railway. A Senior Section Engineer has been suspended following a serious safety lapse that saw a passenger train strike heavy metallic debris left on the railway line.
The Incident: MEMU Train 64582 Hits Track Obstruction
On the night of Friday, September 18, 2026, MEMU passenger train number 64582, which was traveling from Old Delhi to Hathras Kila, encountered a dangerous obstruction. As the train passed through kilometer marker 1298/15, it collided with an iron girder that had been left lying on the tracks.
The impact struck the lower portion of the locomotive engine. However, thanks to the exceptional alertness and rapid response of the locomotive pilot, the train was brought to an immediate halt, preventing what could have been a devastating derailment. The train remained stationary for approximately 45 minutes while officials cleared the debris and conducted mandatory safety checks.
Investigation Reveals Maintenance Negligence
A joint investigation conducted by technical teams revealed the root cause of the obstruction. Preliminary findings indicate that the metallic debris was left behind during recent track maintenance work. Railway authorities have treated the incident with high priority to ensure such negligence does not recur.

In response to the findings, the Divisional Railway Manager of the Prayagraj Division ordered the suspension of Senior Section Engineer Jaish Sharma. The suspension was officially finalized on the evening of September 21, 2026.
