New Mirzapur-Lucknow Train Demand by Dr. Sarjit Singh
Dr. Sarjit Singh Dang, a former cabinet minister and a four-time MLA representing the Mirzapur city assembly seat, has formally requested the introduction of a new train service connecting Mirzapur and Lucknow.
The demand highlights a significant need for improved transit connectivity within the region, aiming to provide a direct link between these two key locations.
Emphasis on Convenient Timings
During his request, Dr. Dang emphasized that any new service must operate at convenient timings to best serve the needs of daily commuters and travelers. Ensuring the schedule aligns with passenger requirements is a priority for the proposed connection.
In discussions regarding this matter, Dr. Dang communicated with the Union Railway Minister, who has provided an assurance that the proposal will be reviewed to find a prompt resolution.
Regional Safety and Operational Context
While the push for expanded rail services continues, the Mirzapur railway network has recently navigated several operational and safety challenges:
- Sabotage Attempt: In September 2024, authorities investigated an attempt to sabotage a train in the vicinity of Mirzapur.
- Chunar Station Accident: In November 2025, a train accident occurred at Chunar railway station, which is located within the Mirzapur district.
These infrastructure and safety concerns persist alongside broader national efforts toward rail modernization. Following statements made by the Railway Minister in December 2025 and March 2026, the focus remains on the continuous expansion and upgrading of the country's railway network.
