Mokama Ganges Rail Bridge to Open Oct 5; Speeds to Hit 90 km/h
The long-awaited Mokama Ganges Rail Bridge is finally ready to transform rail travel in the region. The Indian Railways has announced that the new double-line bridge over the Ganges at Mokama is scheduled for inauguration on October 5, 2026.
A Major Speed Boost for Passengers
This new infrastructure marks a massive leap in operational efficiency. Currently, trains crossing the aging Rajendra Setu are restricted to speeds of only 40-50 km/h. However, once the new bridge is operational, trains will be able to reach speeds of up to 90 km/h, significantly reducing travel time for commuters.
Safety Inspections and Technical Integration
Before the official opening, the Commissioner of Railway Safety will conduct mandatory inspections of the new infrastructure on October 3 and 4, 2026. To prepare for this, the East Central Railway (ECR) has implemented a mega block for essential technical work.
