Monsoon Landslides Hit Rail Services: Major Disruptions in India, Sri Lanka, and Spain

Torrential monsoon rainfall and severe weather events have triggered widespread rail disruptions across India, Sri Lanka, and Spain. As engineering crews work tirelessly to stabilize damaged infrastructure, passengers are facing significant schedule changes, service suspensions, and safety concerns across multiple continents.
India: ECoR Manages Crisis on Kotavalasa-Kirandul Line
In Odisha, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) is currently managing a major service interruption on the Kotavalasa-Kirandul (KK) line. A persistent 14-day landslide crisis between the Maligura and Chhatariput stations has caused extensive damage to the Maligura Yard and critical overhead electric installations.
Due to the ongoing instability, ECoR has announced several changes to train operations. Between October 8 and 12, 2026, the following trains will be short-terminated at Koraput:
- 18005 Howrah–Jagdalpur Express
- 58501 Visakhapatnam–Kirandul Passenger
- 18447 Bhubaneswar–Jagdalpur Hirakhand Express
Corresponding return services will also face disruptions. From October 9 to 14, 2026, the following trains will short-originate from Koraput:
- 18006
- 58502
- 18448
Additionally, the Visakhapatnam-Kirandul-Visakhapatnam Night Express remains suspended until October 12, while the Rourkela-Jagdalpur Express is suspended until October
