Ashwini Vaishnaw Opens 118 km New Rail Sections in Madhya Pradesh
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurates 118 km of new rail sections in MP, bringing first-ever rail connectivity to Sidhi district.

In a massive boost to the infrastructure of central India, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav have inaugurated new rail sections in Madhya Pradesh spanning 118 kilometers. This significant development, unveiled on October 24, 2026, marks a transformative moment for the state's connectivity and industrial potential.
Lalitpur-Singrauli Project Expansion
The newly inaugurated stretches are vital components of the ongoing Lalitpur-Singrauli New Rail Line Project. The expansion includes two major sections:
- Satna-Devendra Nagar Section: Covering 53 kilometers.
- Rewa-Churhat Section: Covering 65 kilometers.
To celebrate this milestone, a passenger train service between Devendra Nagar and Churhat was officially flagged off. While the inauguration took place on October 24, regular passenger operations for this route are scheduled to commence on October 26, 2026.
A Historic First for Sidhi District
One of the most significant outcomes of this project is the arrival of the railway in the Sidhi district. For the first time since India's Independence, the region will benefit from direct rail connectivity. This historic achievement is expected to act as a catalyst for the economic development of the limestone-rich Vindhya region.
"These expansions will significantly improve rail connectivity for tribal populations and facilitate the introduction of multiple new train services across the state," noted Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Driving Industrial and Social Growth
The broader Lalitpur-Singrauli initiative is designed to streamline logistics for various sectors. By enhancing the rail network, the Ministry aims to support:
- Mineral-based Industries: Facilitating the movement of limestone and other essential minerals.
- Cement Plants: Improving the supply chain for major manufacturing units in the region.
- Socio-Economic Development: Boosting trade, education, and employment opportunities for local communities.
Massive Investment in Madhya Pradesh Railways
The scale of railway development in the state is immense. Currently, Madhya Pradesh has approximately ₹1,18,379 crore worth of railway projects in progress. To ensure continued momentum, a specific allocation of ₹15,188 crore has been earmarked for railway development during the 2026-27 fiscal year.
As the festive season approaches, the Ministry of Railways has also emphasized enhanced security and crowd management protocols across the network to ensure safe travel during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath festivals.
