The Mumbai Ahmedabad High Speed Rail project is being developed to offer seamless multi-modal connectivity for passengers across India. The 508-kilometer corridor has reached 62.16 percent physical completion with approximately 91,000 crore rupees spent to date. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has set a target to launch the Surat Bilimora section by August 2027. Track testing for the project is expected to commence by May or June 2027. The infrastructure initiative is managed by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited with Japanese technical and financial assistance. Key stations including Mumbai BKC, Ahmedabad, Sabarmati, and Vadodara are being transformed into integrated transit hubs where commuters can easily transition between bullet trains, conventional railways, buses, and metro lines under one roof.
The Vadodara station will feature a
534-meter-long foot overbridge connecting it directly to the existing Vadodara railway station and the GSRTC central bus depot. Situated above platform number 7 of the existing station, the Vadodara bullet train terminal will include dedicated retail space, waiting areas, and separate parking zones for cars, autos, and buses. Bandra Kurla Complex station is under construction 30 meters underground, with
91 percent of excavation complete and base slab casting currently underway. Meanwhile, the Surat station, which is inspired by the city famous diamond-cutting industry, has finished its structural and roofing phases, with interior work making steady progress.

12-station route encompasses Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Navsari, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati, all aiming to mirror this advanced multi-modal integration. To ensure smooth future operations, the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited has signed a contract with the KCS-AVADH consortium to supply specialized maintenance machinery for rolling stock. Furthermore, authorities have confirmed that the
first bullet train test coach is now ready, marking another significant milestone toward the realization of India first high-speed rail network.
