Indian Railways is gearing up to transform long-distance travel between two of India's major hubs. The much-anticipated Mumbai Bengaluru Vande Bharat Sleeper is set to connect these massive metropolitan areas, offering a premium, high-speed experience for commuters.

A Faster Way to Connect SMVT and CSMT

The new service is scheduled to be inaugurated on November 1, 2026. The train will depart from the Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) in Bengaluru and head towards the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai.

For travelers, the most significant advantage is the massive reduction in journey duration. Covering a distance of approximately 1,118 kilometers, the semi-high-speed train is expected to complete the trip in just 16 hours. This is a major leap compared to the current options, which typically take between 22 and 24 hours to traverse the same route.

Coach Configuration and Passenger Capacity

The Vande Bharat Sleeper Express will consist of a 16-coach trainset, meticulously designed to provide comfort for a large number of passengers. The coach breakdown is as follows:

  • 1 First AC coach for premium travelers
  • 4 AC 2-Tier coaches
  • 11 AC 3-Tier coaches

In total, the train will offer 823 berths, ensuring ample capacity for those traveling between these two metropolitan cities and the intermediate regions.

Cutting-Edge Safety and Modern Amenities

Beyond speed and comfort, the new trainset is packed with advanced technology to ensure a safe and smooth journey. Key features include:

  • KAVACH Safety System: An indigenous automatic train protection system to prevent collisions.
  • Emergency Talk-Back System: For enhanced communication during emergencies.
  • Advanced Braking and Suspension: To provide a stable and smooth ride at higher speeds.
  • Automatic Doors: For passenger convenience and safety.
  • Ergonomic Berths: Designed specifically for better sleep and comfort during the overnight journey.
