Passengers travelling through the picturesque Konkan region now have a brand new travel option as Indian Railways introduces a daily express service connecting Mumbai and Sindhudurg. This eagerly awaited route is set to enhance commuter convenience and boost tourism in coastal Maharashtra by providing seamless connectivity between the state capital and the pristine southern Konkan belt. Here are the key details of the newly inaugurated train service. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis physically flagged off the inaugural train from CSMT on September 3, 2026, while Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal joined via video link. The inaugural special train 01001 departed from CSMT at 12:50 PM and is scheduled to reach Sawantwadi Road at 2:00 AM the next day. Central Railway has arranged a substantial 17-coach composition to accommodate high passenger volume. The regular daily operations schedule will be published by Central Railway soon.
To cater to passengers across various budget preferences, the newly introduced service features a well-balanced rake configuration.
The 17-coach train includes one AC First Class coach, two AC 2-tier coaches, three AC 3-tier coaches, four Sleeper Class coaches, four General Second Class coaches, one Second Seating-cum-Guard's Brake Van, and one Generator Van. For the convenience of travellers across the region,
the express train will make commercial halts at Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Pen, Roha, Mangaon, Veer, Khed, Chiplun, Savarda, Aravali Road, Sangameshwar Road, Ratnagiri, Adavali, Valivade, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road, Nandgaon Road, Kankavli, Sindhudurg, and Kudal. These numerous halts ensure robust connectivity for smaller towns and rural pockets along the Konkan route.
The launch of this daily express service directly addresses a long-standing demand from local residents and frequent travellers for better rail links to the Konkan region. Railway authorities anticipate that
the new service will significantly boost tourism in South Konkan hotspots such as Sawantwadi, Amboli, and Tarkarli by making travel more accessible for weekenders and holidaymakers from Mumbai. Additionally, the new train will help ease passenger congestion on existing routes, ensuring a smoother and more comfortable journey for everyone heading towards the coastal districts.
