The North Eastern Railway (NER) is preparing to revolutionize regional travel by introducing local train services modeled after the famous suburban networks of Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata. This ambitious project is designed to tackle the growing passenger numbers and provide much-needed connectivity across high-traffic corridors.
Targeting High-Density Routes
To ensure the new services are placed where they are needed most, the Railway Board has instructed the Varanasi and Lucknow divisions to conduct a deep dive into passenger patterns. The administration is specifically looking for:

- Areas with a significant volume of Season Ticket (MST) holders.
As of September 22, 2026, the NER administration has already completed its preliminary work, submitting a comprehensive list of proposed stations to the Railway Board for formal review.
