Mungeli Railway Reservation Center Reopening: End to Ticket Woes!
Relief for Mungeli residents as the railway reservation center resumes operations, ending the need to travel to Bilaspur or Raipur for tickets.

The long-standing struggle of Mungeli residents to secure train tickets is finally coming to an end. The local Mungeli railway reservation center is set to resume operations, bringing much-needed relief to thousands of daily commuters who have faced immense hardship due to its closure.
Ending the Era of Touts and Long Travels
For a significant period, the absence of a local booking facility caused widespread frustration. Following its closure between October 17 and October 24, 2026, passengers were forced to undertake exhausting journeys to cities like Bilaspur, Raipur, or Bhatapara just to access basic ticketing services.
This gap in essential services created a perfect opportunity for exploitation. Without a local counter, private agents and touts stepped in, charging exorbitant fees to passengers desperate to book their journeys. The reopening comes as a direct response to intense pressure from local citizens on the district administration and the South East Central Railway (SECR) officials.
A Decade of Service Returning to Mungeli
The reservation center is a vital part of the local infrastructure, having served the community for 12 years. In its previous years of operation, the facility was located within the Collectorate premises before eventually moving to its location at the Old Bus Stand.
Major Rail Developments in Chhattisgarh
The restoration of the Mungeli center coincides with a massive expansion of the railway network in the region. The Chhattisgarh cabinet recently approved a significant new infrastructure project aimed at boosting connectivity.
Key Details of the New ₹8000 Crore Rail Project:
- Total Distance: The new rail line will span 295 kilometers.
- Connected Locations: The project will link Katghora, Takhatpur, Mungeli, Kawardha, Khairagarh, and Dongargarh.
- Estimated Investment: Approximately ₹8000 crore.
In addition to these infrastructure upgrades, Indian Railways has introduced a new benefit for passengers. Effective October 27, 2026, an optional travel insurance scheme has been made available for all tickets booked at station counters. This new feature follows a Supreme Court directive issued on October 6, 2026, to enhance passenger security during travel.
