11 Trains Cancelled in Muzaffarnagar Amid Delhi Protests

Indian Railways has announced the cancellation of 11 trains in Muzaffarnagar following reports of protests in New Delhi. The Muzaffarnagar Delhi train cancellations were implemented as a proactive precautionary measure to avoid passenger inconvenience caused by expected heavy traffic congestion near major Delhi terminals.

Jan Shatabdi and Major Routes Affected

Among the affected services is the prominent Jan Shatabdi Express, specifically train numbers 12056 and 12055. The cancellations have primarily disrupted the Saharanpur-Delhi route, as well as travel between Muzaffarnagar, Delhi, and Dehradun.

Reason for the Sudden Disruptions

The Ministry of Railways cited protests organized by the 'Cockroach Janata Party' (CJP) at Jantar Mantar as the primary reason for these changes. Railway authorities anticipate significant road congestion and traffic restrictions near both New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations due to the demonstrations.

Specific Termination Schedule

To mitigate the impact of the protests, the following rules were applied to train operations:

  • Trains departing from their originating stations after 2:00 PM on October 9, 2026, were terminated at their source.
  • Any trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin between 4:00 AM and 2:00 PM on October 10, 2026, were also affected.

Wider Impact on North Western Railway

The disruption extends beyond the Muzaffarnagar region. The North Western Railway has also cancelled 13 train services traveling to and from Delhi for October 9 and 10. Additionally, several other mail and express trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin have faced rescheduling or outright cancellation.

Service Resumption and Refund Information

Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway, confirmed that all train services are expected to return to their normal schedules starting from 00:00 hours on October 11, 2026. He noted that no further cancellations beyond those announced for October 10 are currently planned.

For passengers affected by these sudden changes, the following information is vital:

  • Refunds: Railway authorities have already initiated the processing of refunds for all cancelled bookings.
  • Counter Tickets: Passengers holding physical counter tickets are advised to visit their nearest Passenger Reservation
