Nagpur-Mumbai Duronto Express Damaged in Stone Pelting Attack
The Nagpur-Mumbai Duronto Express (Train No. 12290) was targeted in a stone-pelting incident on September 26, resulting in damage to several coaches. The incident occurred after the train passed Borkhedi Station, causing concern for passengers, though no injuries or losses were reported.
Damage to Coaches and Incident Details
According to Railway officials, the stones struck the train at approximately 20:27 hrs. The impact resulted in the window glass being cracked in three specific coaches:
- Coach A-1
- Coach B-2
- Coach B-5
The escort staff and passengers on board confirmed that the objects were thrown from outside the train during its transit through the section.
RPF Investigation and Search Operations
Upon receiving information at approximately 20:46 hrs, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and GRP staff immediately launched a search operation. The teams focused on the Borkhedi–Sindhi section between Km 803 and Km 796.
The investigation included the following steps:
- Conducting searches in the areas surrounding Borkhedi and Brahmani villages.
- Questioning local residents and the Police Patil.
- Scanning the vicinity for any suspicious movement.
Despite these efforts, no suspicious persons or concrete evidence were found during the initial search. However, further enquiries are currently in progress to determine the exact location and circumstances of the attack.
Legal Action and Safety Context
The authorities have registered Crime No. 325/2026 under Section 153 of the Railway Act against an unknown person. The investigation is ongoing to identify those responsible for the vandalism.
This incident follows a similar act of stone pelting on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express (22961) near Surat a month ago, an incident that occurred while Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel was on board.
