137 Extra Coaches for Narnaul-Mahendragarh Train Pairs

Indian Railways is taking proactive steps to tackle the massive passenger surge expected during the upcoming festive season. To accommodate the heavy rush in the Narnaul and Mahendragarh regions of Haryana, the authorities have announced the temporary addition of 137 extra coaches across 47 pairs of train services.

Starting in November, these additional coaches are aimed at providing passengers with better berth availability and improved travel facilities during the peak periods of Diwali and Chhath Puja. This move is part of a coordinated effort by the North Western Railway and Northern Railway to manage the seasonal influx of travelers.

A Massive Nationwide Festive Plan

The capacity boost in Haryana is part of a much larger national strategy to handle the holiday rush. Between October 1 and November 30, 2026, Indian Railways has scheduled an extensive network of services, including:

  • Approximately 3.4 lakh regular train trips across the country.
  • 8,454 special services designed specifically for festive travelers.

Northern Railway is playing a significant role in this operation, scheduling over 6,200 special trips. These services are intended to clear passenger backlogs from Delhi to major destinations in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal. This represents a substantial 30% increase in special services compared to the previous year.

Enhanced Security and Station Amenities

To ensure a safe and smooth journey for the millions of passengers migrating for the festivals, station management has been bolstered. Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, CPRO of Northern Railway, confirmed that several measures are in place to handle the seasonal surge:

  • Enhanced station security to manage large crowds.
  • Additional ticket counters to reduce waiting times.
  • Increased staff deployment to assist passengers and manage operations.

This initiative follows previous capacity management steps taken by the North Western Railway, which had already augmented services with 148 coaches and temporary additions on 94 trains to address demand fluctuations throughout the autumn months.
