Nashik Road Platform Ticket Ban & Bihar Chhath Upgrades
Indian Railways suspends platform ticket sales at Nashik Road and adds 20 ticket counters in Bihar to manage the 2026 Chhath Puja festive rush.

In a strategic move to manage the massive influx of passengers during the upcoming festive season, Indian Railways has announced significant crowd-control measures. These changes specifically target high-traffic periods during Diwali and the Chhath Puja festival in 2026.
Nashik Road: Platform Ticket Sales Suspended
The Bhusawal division of Central Railway has decided to suspend the sale of platform tickets at Nashik Road railway station. This restriction will be in effect from November 1 through November 15, 2026.
The primary objective behind this decision is to mitigate severe overcrowding at the station during the peak travel period. However, the administration has provided certain exemptions to ensure passenger convenience:
- Relatives assisting senior citizens.
- Individuals assisting passengers requiring urgent medical attention.
Massive Infrastructure Boost in Bihar for Chhath Puja
While restrictions are being implemented in some areas, significant upgrades are being rolled out in Bihar to accommodate the heavy festive rush. To ensure smooth passenger movement, the railway administration is focusing on capacity enhancement:
- Holding Areas: Dedicated holding areas are being established at 15 different railway stations across the state.
- Ticket Counters: An additional 20 ticket counters will be made operational to reduce waiting times.
Special Trains and Connectivity Boost
To tackle the seasonal surge in demand, Indian Railways is deploying a massive fleet of special trains. A 30% increase in services has been planned compared to the previous year, with over 6,200 special train trips scheduled.
The Northern Railway is coordinating these efforts to ensure seamless connectivity between northern cities and the states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
Travel Advisory for Passengers
With the expected heavy rush, railway authorities have issued the following advice to travelers:
- Arrive Early: Passengers are strongly advised to reach their departure stations well ahead of schedule.
- Seek Assistance: For help with coach identification or boarding assistance, passengers should contact the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
