NCR to Run 1,000+ Diwali Chhath Puja Special Trains

The North Central Railway (NCR) has announced a massive operational plan, including Diwali Chhath Puja special trains, to handle the heavy passenger surge expected during the upcoming festive season. To ensure seamless travel for commuters, the administration is introducing a vast number of special services and implementing strict crowd control measures at major stations.

Massive Deployment of Special Train Services

Dr. Shivam Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the North Central Railway, confirmed that the administration has planned over 1,000 'Trains on Demand' (TOD) and festival special trips. These services are scheduled to operate between October 1 and November 30, 2026.

The special trains are strategically focused on connecting the national capital with several key states to accommodate the festive rush, specifically targeting routes to:

  • Bihar
  • Uttar Pradesh
  • West Bengal

Platform Ticket Ban at Major Delhi Hubs

To prevent overcrowding and manage the intense influx of passengers at major transit hubs, the railway administration has implemented a temporary ban on the sale of platform tickets. This restriction is a proactive measure to maintain order at busy stations during the peak festive period.

The ban will be in effect from November 3, 2026, through November 14, 2026, at the following stations:

  • New Delhi
  • Old Delhi
  • Hazrat Nizamuddin
  • Ghaziabad
  • Anand Vihar Terminal

Important Travel Guidelines for Passengers

With the significant increase in passenger traffic, the CPRO has urged all travelers to verify their journey details in advance. Passengers are advised to check the latest train schedules, departure timings, and seat availability using official resources to avoid any inconvenience.

Recommended resources for real-time information include:

  1. The official Indian Railways website
  2. The NTES mobile application
  3. The national railway helpline service

To ensure secure and confirmed travel arrangements, passengers are further encouraged to book their tickets through the IRCTC portal.
