New Delhi railway operations face disruptions due to infrastructure work and summit
Train operations at New Delhi Railway Station will be significantly impacted from September 11 to 13, 2026, due to a combination of infrastructure projects and the upcoming BRICS summit at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan. A total of five trains have been officially cancelled during this period. The Northern Railway has advised all passengers to verify the operational status and timing of their respective trains before heading to the station. Beyond the local station disruptions, broader infrastructure upgrades are causing extensive service changes across the Northern Railway network. Chandigarh Railway Station is undergoing a 36-day traffic and power block from September 10 to October 15, 2026, which will affect 442 train journeys, including crucial services connecting Delhi and Kalka. Additionally, a 10-day maintenance block at Ghaziabad Railway Station has resulted in the total cancellation of 18 local and MEMU trains operating between Delhi, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, and Meerut until October 4. In anticipation of the BRICS summit, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive advisory for the September 11-13 period. Due to heightened security and specific traffic diversions, passengers are urged to plan for extra travel time when reaching New Delhi, Old Delhi, or Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations. Authorities have strongly recommended the use of Delhi Metro services or other public transportation to avoid potential congestion. Furthermore, nine trains operating on the Uttar Pradesh-New Delhi route are expected to face delays or route diversions due to summit-related movement protocols.
