New Delhi Railway Station: New Crowd Management Rules
Northern Railway introduces new entry-exit rules and platform ticket suspensions at New Delhi Railway Station for the 2026 festive season.

Northern Railway has announced a comprehensive new crowd management system at New Delhi Railway Station to tackle the massive surge of passengers expected during the 2026 festive season. Starting in November 2026, these measures aim to streamline passenger flow and ensure maximum safety within the station premises.
Strict Entry and Exit Protocols
To prevent overcrowding and manage the heavy footfall, the administration has introduced a color-coded gate system and a one-way movement protocol. This separation of entry and exit routes is designed to prevent bottlenecks and ensure a smooth transition for commuters.
- Reserved Passengers: Those traveling in AC or sleeper coaches must use the blue-marked Gate Numbers 8 and 11 to access platforms 1 through 15.
- General Passengers: Unreserved travelers are directed to use the yellow-marked Gate Number 12, which provides access to platforms 1 through 16.
Suspension of Platform Ticket Sales
In a significant move to control congestion, the sale of platform tickets will be suspended from November 3 to November 14, 2026. This restriction applies to several major stations in the Delhi-NCR region, including:
- New Delhi
- Old Delhi
- Hazrat Nizamuddin
- Anand Vihar Terminal
- Anand Vihar Halt
- Ghaziabad
Note: This suspension does not apply to senior citizens, persons with disabilities, women, or passengers who are unwell.
Enhanced Security and Digital Ticketing
To further ease the pressure on station infrastructure, a permanent passenger holding area has been established outside platform number 16 on the Ajmeri Gate side. This area is equipped with baggage scanners and will be monitored by Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel.
Additionally, railway staff have been equipped with handheld devices to issue general tickets directly within the station. This initiative is intended to significantly reduce long queues at traditional ticket counters.
"These comprehensive measures are designed to ensure safety and prevent stampede-like situations within the station complex during the peak travel period," stated Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northern Railway.
