New MEMU Services: Sabarmati to Mahesana via Becharaji
PM Modi flags off new daily MEMU services connecting Sabarmati, Becharaji, and Mahesana, restoring connectivity after nine years.
In a significant boost to regional connectivity in Gujarat, Indian Railways has officially launched two pairs of new daily Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) services. These new trains will connect Sabarmati, Becharaji, and Mahesana, providing much-needed transport options for daily commuters and pilgrims alike.
Connectivity Restored After Nine Years
The new services were flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 30, 2026. This launch marks a historic moment as it restores passenger rail connectivity to Becharaji after a nine-year hiatus, which was caused by the completion of a major gauge conversion project. Regular commercial operations for these MEMU trains are scheduled to commence on November 1, 2026.
Impact on Commuters and Pilgrims
The introduction of these services is expected to benefit a wide range of passengers, including daily commuters, industrial employees, students, and traders. Additionally, the route offers improved access for devotees visiting the historic Shri Bahuchar Mata Temple. The rail route between these stations actually dates back to 1908, making this restoration a significant return to service for the region.
New Train Schedule and Stops
The MEMU services will provide stops at several key locations to ensure maximum accessibility:
- Chandkheda
- Kalol
- Kadi
- Bhoyani
- Katosan Road
- Becharaji
- Chanasma
- Ranuj
Daily Service Timings
Two daily services have been introduced to cater to different travel needs throughout the day:
- First Service: Departs Sabarmati at 06:40 AM, arriving in Becharaji at 08:05 AM and Mahesana at 09:45 AM. The return trip departs Mahesana at 04:40 PM, reaching Becharaji at 05:49 PM and Sabarmati at 08:30 PM.
- Second Service: Departs Sabarmati at 05:05 PM, reaching Becharaji at 06:48 PM and Mahesana at 08:25 PM. The return trip departs Mahesana at 07:05 AM, arriving in Becharaji at 07:50 AM and Sabarmati at 10:20 AM.
Important Notice: Train Cancellation
To facilitate the implementation of the new schedule, the existing Sabarmati–Katosan Road MEMU service (69249/69250) has been permanently canceled. Passengers are advised to take note of this change and plan their journeys accordingly.
The fare for the journey between Sabarmati and Becharaji has been set at ₹25. Maintenance for the new rolling stock will be managed by the Vadodara MEMU Shed.
