Bhagalpur Railway Station is introducing a new crowd management system to handle the high volume of daily passengers. According to the new rules, passengers will be allowed to enter the platform only 30 minutes before their train is scheduled to leave. This decision comes as the station prepares for heavy festival rushes and aims to prevent overcrowding on narrow platforms and staircases.

New Entry Rules and Passenger Categorization
The railway authorities have divided passengers into two categories based on their waiting time. Those with less than 30 minutes remaining for their train can enter the platforms normally, including those on DMU and MEMU passenger trains. However, passengers arriving earlier than this window must wait in a designated holding area outside the main platform area.
- 30-Minute Rule: Entry to the platform is restricted until 30 minutes before departure.
- Holding Area: Passengers with longer wait times must stay in the designated waiting zone.
- Separate Gates: Mandatory separate entry and exit points to ensure smooth passenger flow.
- Ticket Mandatory: Strict enforcement to ensure only valid ticket holders enter the premises.
Infrastructure Development and Budget Details
A new two-story (G+1) modular holding area is proposed to be built at the eastern end of the station near the reservation center. This project is part of a larger modernization plan led by the Railway Ministry to create permanent waiting spaces at major stations. The design includes modern amenities to make the wait comfortable for passengers.

Current Status and Enforcement
Malda Division DRM Manish Kumar Gupta is overseeing the implementation to prevent any stampede-like situations during peak hours. Reports from February 15, 2026, indicate that the system is in its final stages of rollout. While the permanent G+1 structure is under construction, temporary holding areas will manage the crowd during the upcoming Holi festival. Security teams from the RPF and GRP have already started intensive ticket-checking drives to discourage unauthorized entry into the station.
