Indian Railways is working on the 276.50 km long new rail line between Bhopal and Ramganj Mandi. This project will connect Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, making travel faster and easier for passengers. A large part of the track is already completed, and the project will bring railway connectivity to several areas for the first time.
What are the main benefits for passengers and industry?
The new line will significantly cut travel time and distance for commuters. Passengers traveling between Bhopal and Kota will save about 2 to 3 hours. Those traveling from Jaipur to South India will see a distance reduction of approximately 115 km. Additionally, the route to Kalisindh Thermal Plant for coal supply will become 42 km shorter, which will help in faster industrial supply.
What is the current progress and timeline of the project?
As of April 2026, around 187 km of the total 276.5 km project has been completed. The remaining 89 km is expected to be finished by March 2027. The West Central Railway has already commissioned a significant portion of the track and completed all four tunnels. General Manager Shobhana Bandyopadhyay stated that the line will start in 2026 and the deadline will not be extended.
