What’s inside:

Bihar government takes a significant step to address storage and packaging issues of fruits and vegetables in the state.

In Bihar, the government has initiated a crucial step to address the major problem of storage, packaging, and protection of locally produced fruits and vegetables. Cold chain yards will be set up in Bihta and Musallahpur Haat in Patna to benefit farmers directly. This initiative will not only prevent wastage of produce but also open up avenues for the export of fruits and vegetables.

Agriculture Minister Ramkrupal Yadav shared this information during a workshop on ‘Challenges and Improvements in Agricultural Marketing’ held at the agriculture building.

The cold chain yards in Bihta and Musallahpur Haat will strengthen the supply chain of fruits and vegetables. Facilities ranging from storage to packaging will be available here, enabling local produce to reach national and international markets. Farmers have been experiencing losses due to the lack of proper storage for a long time, which this system will significantly reduce.

Additionally, the state is revamping a total of 20 market committees, with five already completed. These markets are being modernized to provide better facilities to farmers and ensure smooth trading.

The primary focus of the Marketing Directorate is to ensure farmers get fair prices for their produce. Emphasis is being placed on storage, price enhancement, processing, export promotion, and development of rural markets to achieve this goal.

Summary:

  • Bihar government sets up cold chain yards in Bihta and Musallahpur Haat.

  • Revamping of 20 market committees underway, with five already completed.

  • Farmers to benefit from fair pricing and modernized marketing infrastructure.

  • Focus on storage, price enhancement, processing, and export promotion.

  • E-market platforms like e-NAM to enhance transparency and pricing for farmers.
