New Railway Stations in Bihar

The state of Bihar is set to enhance its railway infrastructure with the construction of ten new railway stations along a newly proposed railway line connecting Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga. The survey for this 67.4 km long line has been completed by a private agency based in Roorkee. Originally approved in the 2007-08 financial year at an estimated cost of Rs 495 crore, the project faced delays after the introduction of a new Railway Board policy in 2012. However, a budget allocation of Rs 20 crore has been made for the project in 2023, signaling a renewed commitment to its completion.

Project Cost and Travel Time Reduction

The total estimated cost for the railway project has now escalated to Rs 2514 crore. In addition to the ten new stations, the route will include 27 crossings and six railway bridges, significantly improving connectivity in the region. Currently, the journey from Muzaffarpur to Darbhanga via Samastipur takes approximately two hours, covering a distance of about 91 kilometers. The new railway line will shorten this distance by 24 kilometers, enabling passengers to complete the journey in just one and a half hours.

Proposed Construction Details

The construction of the new railway line is set to commence from Pandasarai, located just one kilometer from Laheriasarai. Following the initial station at Pandasarai, the line will progress to Muzaffarpur Junction, incorporating stations at Dilahi, Kolhanta Patori, Madhopur Pandaul, Ghoshama, Vidyaroj, Silaut, and Narayanpur Anant along the way. This development is anticipated to greatly enhance rail connectivity and accessibility for the residents of Bihar.
