Survey Initiated for Delhi-Amritsar Bullet Train

The central government has commenced a survey to establish a bullet train service connecting the national capital, Delhi, to Amritsar in Punjab. The project will necessitate the acquisition of land from 343 villages situated in both Haryana and Punjab. Following the completion of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project, the Delhi-Amritsar route is set to be the next in line, as the government intends to implement bullet trains across ten different routes, with feasibility reports already prepared. Currently, the survey for the Delhi-Amritsar route is in progress, and discussions with local farmers concerning land acquisition have begun.

Route Details and Speed Specifications

The bullet train will cover a distance of 465 kilometers, stopping at a total of 15 stations, including key points such as Bahadurgarh, Jhajjar, Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar. The train is expected to operate at a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour, with a cruising speed of 320 kilometers per hour and an average speed of 250 kilometers per hour. This high-speed service will significantly reduce travel time, allowing passengers to journey from Delhi to Amritsar in less than two hours, as the train is designed to accommodate approximately 750 passengers at once.

Land Acquisition and Compensation for Farmers

The land acquisition process will affect a total of 343 villages across Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab, with 186 villages in Punjab alone being impacted. This includes villages from Mohali, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Kapurthala, and others. To address the concerns of farmers, the IIMR agency is actively engaging with them, ensuring that compensation for the land taken will be five times the collector rate for each respective village. Central and Railway officials are undertaking extensive surveys to facilitate this process, which is part of the broader initiative estimated to cost around Rs 61 thousand crores.
