Introduction of Amrit Bharat Trains

The Indian government is set to enhance the railway experience for passengers by introducing 110 non-AC Amrit Bharat trains over the next three years. The Railway Board has established a target of producing a total of 2,466 coaches during this period, with a specific focus on creating 266 coaches designated for guards, luggage, and accommodating disabled individuals. The remaining coaches will comprise sleepers, general coaches, and pantry cars, aimed at improving the overall travel experience for the common public.

Production Targets and Coach Types

The production of coaches will be distributed among the Rail Coach Factories located in Kapurthala, Rae Bareli, and Chennai, with specific targets set for the financial years 2024-25, 2025-26, and 2026-27. In the current financial year, the plan includes the production of 382 coaches to facilitate the operation of approximately 17 new Amrit Bharat trains. Furthermore, for the subsequent years, the targets are set at 854 coaches (38 Amrit Bharat) for 2025-26 and 1,230 coaches (55 Amrit Bharat) for 2026-27.

Speed and Affordability Features

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav previously announced the introduction of a superfast variant of the Amrit Bharat trains, designed primarily for the general populace. These saffron-colored trains will have the capability to reach speeds of 130 kilometers per hour, utilizing pull-push technology where engines are positioned at both ends. This innovative design allows the Amrit Bharat trains to operate at speeds comparable to Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains while offering lower fare options.
