What’s inside:

Indian Railway Ministry has decided to double the capacity of busy rail routes and stations. A total of 48 stations have been selected for this development plan, including Ranchi and Tatanagar stations. This decision was shared after approval from Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav.

Indian Railway Ministry has planned to strengthen the current infrastructure to meet the needs of upcoming years. By 2030, the operation capacity will be doubled by equipping existing terminals with additional platforms, stabling lines, pit lines, and adequate shunting facilities. New terminals will be identified and constructed in urban areas and surrounding areas, along with maintenance facilities including mega coaching complexes, to accommodate the increasing number of trains at various locations through traffic facilities, signaling upgrades, and multi-tracking.

This plan also includes focusing on stations around the terminals when increasing their capacity to maintain a balance. For example, for Tatanagar, along with expanding platforms and stabling lines at Tatanagar station, consideration has been given to increasing the capacity of nearby stations like Adityapur, Gamharia, Asanboni, and others.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav mentioned that expanding coaching terminals in various cities and increasing regional and operational capacities are being done to meet the growing demand of passengers and reduce overcrowding. This step will enhance our railway network and improve nationwide connectivity. The 48 stations include Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Patna, Lucknow, Pune, Nagpur, Varanasi, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Mathura, Ayodhya, among others.
