Indian Railways approves a major project to install indigenous security system on remaining routes of East-Central Railway for enhanced safety and efficiency.
Indian Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has given approval for a big project to install indigenous security system, called Kavach, on the remaining routes of East-Central Railway. This approval will not only give a new direction to railway security but also elevate East-Central Railway to the category of the country’s safest rail zones. The total cost of this approved project under Umbrella Work 2024-25 is Rs. 27,693 crore, with a special allocation of Rs. 1822 crore for East-Central Railway. The funding will be used to establish modern security systems on all important and remaining rail routes in the zone, with a target of installing Kavach on 2200 route kilometers in East-Central Railway.
With the installation of Kavach, trains running on busy and important routes like Dhanbad, Danapur, Mughalsarai, Samastipur, and Sonpur in Jharkhand will become even more safe and well-organized compared to before. This technology will significantly reduce the possibility of accidents in densely populated railway areas. Kavach, developed by Indian Railways, is an indigenous automatic train protection system that has the capability to prevent train collisions, control speed, prevent signal passing errors, and apply automatic brakes in emergency situations. The utility of this system increases in densely populated and high-traffic East-Central Railway zone.
Route Kilometer in the railway refers to the total actual length of any railway route from one station to another. This number does not change based on whether the route has a single line, double line, or multi-line. Route Kilometer is considered most important in determining network expansion, security plans, implementing new technologies (like Kavach), and determining project costs in the railway.
The approval of the Kavach project will strengthen the railway security system in the coming months. Besides, there will be a significant improvement in the speed, punctuality, and operational capacity of freight and passenger trains. The use of Kavach will make the railway operation technology more smart, modern, and reliable.
Indian Railways is taking significant steps to enhance safety and efficiency on its network, with the installation of Kavach being a major milestone in this direction.
Summary:
- Indian Railways approves installation of indigenous security system Kavach on East-Central Railway routes.
- Kavach will enhance safety and efficiency on busy routes like Dhanbad, Danapur, Mughalsarai, Samastipur, and Sonpur in Jharkhand.
- Route Kilometer is a crucial metric in determining railway network expansion, security plans, and project costs.
- Kavach project approval will lead to stronger railway security and improved operational capacity in the coming months.
