Indian Railways has introduced a new rule to make travel easier for divyangjan. Now, people holding a valid Unique Disability ID (UDID) card can travel in special coaches reserved for disabled passengers. This decision aims to reduce paperwork and make the journey more dignified for passengers.
Which coaches and trains are included in this rule?
This facility is available in Mail and Express trains. Specifically, UDID card holders can use the Second Class Luggage-cum-Brake Van with compartment for divyangjan (SLRD) and the LSLRD coaches. These are the unreserved special coaches designed for accessibility.
How can passengers use UDID for bookings?
The Railway Board has integrated this with digital services to help passengers. Travelers can now add their UDID card details in the IRCTC portal. This can be done under the My Profile section by using the Add/Modify Master List option to make ticket booking and getting concessions easier.
What are the mandatory rules for traveling?
- A valid ticket or authority letter is mandatory for the journey.
- Only UDID card holders or those with railway-issued disability IDs are considered actual passengers.
- General passengers traveling in these special coaches without authorization will face strict action under the Railway Act 1989.
